Lessons at the Kleve-Kellen music school

The Kleve-Kellen music school (until the end of 2015 “rhythm & groove factory”) has offered a wide range of lessons for children, teenagers and adults since May 1999: instrumental and singing lessons as individual and group lessons, theory subjects such as ear training, harmony and rhythm, band lessons and choirs, and further training for music teachers at general schools.

Theory & ear training

Many students combine subjects: teenagers and adults take theory and combo lessons alongside their main subject – for example to prepare for a career in music or a music college entrance exam.

The premises

• an office for administration and registration
• 11 classrooms
• the event hall with stage, lighting and café area
• an archive of sheet music, textbooks, play-alongs and teaching materials created by our teachers
• a large play area (carpet) for children

Since 1999

Since opening in May 1999 the school has grown continuously: from 70 students and eight teachers at the start to 180 students and twelve teachers after moving from Gasthausstraße to Emmericher Straße in September 2000. Today, 19 teachers teach over 300 students.

The 100 m² hall regularly hosts student concerts, teacher concerts, talks, workshops and concerts by well-known musicians – as well as cultural events such as art exhibitions.

Our teachers

Most of our teachers studied at the jazz/pop departments of Dutch and German music academies, several with distinction. They are up to date as players and educators and have plenty of teaching experience. Meet all our teachers

Our concept

We want to motivate our students to make music seriously – going beyond the “fun factor” to engage with all areas of music. More in our objectives.

Through the “Kulturtisch” of the Kleve district's cultural workers, MUKL is closely connected with Cinque (cabaret), the city's classical concerts, the Filmforum, the cultural office, the VHS, the XOX Theater, the Museum Kurhaus and the “Theater im Fluss”. In 2003 the school was portrayed on radio: WDR 3 (Papageno) and Deutschlandfunk (Korso – Kultur nach 3).
